Campus Safety

Campus Safety

UoNNTU’s Campus Security operates 24/7 across every campus, you can find out the details and how to contact them here:

SafeZone [UoN]

The University of Nottingham has partnered with the SafeZone app to work across all of the UK-based campuses, including several features which can help keep you safe and get a quick response to incidents on campus:

  • Non-emergency security hotline: This will place a call through to the non-emergency security number to report non-urgent concerns, such as suspicious behaviour.
  • First Aid Alerts: This will send an alert to the nearest building first-aider (or security out of hours) to respond, assess the situation and treat or escalate as necessary.
  • Emergency response: This sends your location and an immediate alert to the campus security team for a response to serious injury, threats to safety or incidents in progress.
  • Check in: For lone workers who are alone in university buildings or in areas of campus where a first aid response may be difficult out of hours, this allows you to share your location with security and your expected time leaving so they can check up on you in case of an incident.
  • The app also contains non-urgent information on the available Wellbeing services or resources for non-urgent assistance.

Safe Spaces [NTSU]

Following the efforts of NTSU’s Vice-President Community & Welfare in 2021, Nottingham Trent University opened three ‘Safe Spaces’ across City, Clifton and Brackenhurst campuses. These spaces are open overnight (City: 9 pm - 9 am, Clifton & Brack: 8 pm - 8 am) to provide a student only quiet space, supervised remotely by security, if you need support, help, or just a place to calm down.

  • On City, this can be access trough the security entrance to Boots library;
  • On Clifton, this is in the upper floor or the Pavillion (room 123A);
  • On Brackenhurst, this is located in Pipin Cottage (room PCL8).

Emergency Security Points [NTSU]

At Brackenhurst, City and Clifton Campuses, there are also some Emergency Security Points (installed as part of a previous NTSU VP Community & Welfare’s manifesto commitment) which act as CCTV covered refuge and contact points from which you can contact security in an emergency.

When activated, these points ring through so you can speak directly to security, and pivot security cameras to view the point and the area around it.
