City Safety

Nottingham has a thriving evening and night-time economy, internationally accredited as a ‘Purple Flag’ city for offering a safe, diverse, and well-managed evening and night-time economy. We work closely with partners including University of Nottingham Students’ UnionNottingham Trent Students’ Union, the universities, city council, local venues, pubwatch, the police and others to ensure everyone is working together to continue to make improvements in safety.

First Aid (Defibrillators and Bleed Kits)

In an emergency, always call 999, many defibrillators or kits will need a code from the emergency services to open, and patients will still need paramedic attention and transportation for treatment as soon as possible.

999 call handlers will be able to advise you on the closest defibrillator, and bleed kit if available, but you can also be prepared by looking at https://www.defibfinder.uk/ and entering your postcode for defibrillators or https://www.bleedmap.co.uk/ in the case of a major bleed.

Police University Liaison Team:

Joint with Nottinghamshire Police, both the University of Nottingham & Nottingham Trent UniversityNottingham Trent University & University of Nottingham have an officer and a PCSO based on-campus, providing a link and close collaboration between the university and Nottinghamshire Police. Day-to-day, they can offer advice and support to students on personal safety, security, and victim support and can act as a point of contact for students.

Street Pastors

On Friday’s and Saturdays, the volunteer Street Pastors often patrol the city centre between 10-3am helping anyone who is need with water, advice and first aid as necessary.

My Local Bobby

Working with ‘My Local Bobby’ It’s In Nottingham has created the ‘Safer City Partnership’, patrolling the city centre to reduce shoplifting and support vulnerable people, including coordinating with homeless charities to support rough sleepers. Look out for them in red high-vis vests.
